Exploring How Invisalign Works – The Innovative Procedure Approach to Straighten Teeth

While the Invisalign treatment timeline will look different from patient to patient, the process and procedure remain the same. Invisalign’s treatment process involves no brackets, wires, metal, or gooey impressions. Instead, it requires you to wear a series of removable, invisible aligners daily for at least 22 hours.

How Invisalign has the power to move your teeth softly

The Science Behind Straightening Your Smile

Invisalign clear aligners are patented, and the science behind how they work is incomparable to any other type of aligner available on the market, making them unique.

The aligners used in your treatment take advantage of the tension and compression movements in the mouth, which slowly, gently and gradually move teeth into a new direction or position throughout your treatment.

Each new aligner you wear and swap out every week will move your teeth further into their desired position.

The movement caused by Invisalign’s aligners and consistent pressure on teeth gradually breaks down and rebuilds the bone in the direction of the pressure.

With a series of custom aligner trays designed and manufactured from your 3D models and orthodontic scans of your teeth, gums and bite, Invisalign is strong enough to move teeth into a healthier, straighter position.

In as little as four steps and in under 12 months, Invisalign has the power to leave you with the smile you’ve always dreamed of.

Step 1: Start with your Invisalign consultation

  • Costs: £85 with our Platinum Invisalign Dentists
  • Length: Takes just one hour to complete.
  • Involves: Scans and oral health check.

The first step of your Invisalign journey begins with using state-of-the-art technology like the iTero Element Scanner to map out your teeth, gums and bite.

Using no gooey impressions or moulds, our Platinum Invisalign Providers will create accurate and precise 3D scans and simulations of your current smile and how it will look at the end of your treatment, which means you get to see what your final smile will look like before you even start treatment (more than that, you’ll be able to see it at every step).

No other clear aligner brand allows you to take a sneak peek of what your smile could and will look like.

No two Invisalign treatment plans are the same, book your initial consultation.

Step 2: Pick up your aligners and get started

  • Costs:
  • Length: 15-20 minutes.
  • Involves: Explanation and aligner pick-up.

Around three weeks later, when your bespoke aligners have been custom-made with the patented SmartTrack material by the Invisalign laboratory, you’ll be invited back into our practice (whether in Burgess Hill, Brighton or Tunbridge Wells) to pick up your series of aligner trays.

During this appointment, your Invisalign dentist will provide helpful information on how to wear and care for your aligners, along with tips and instructions for wearing them and carrying out your treatment at home.

We’ll also try on your first set to ensure they fit correctly and are as comfortable as possible.

From here, we’ll also schedule a series of regular face-to-face or remote consultations to check in with you regarding your progress and provide you with the next batch of aligners to complete your treatment.

Part of the process of wearing Invisalign is swapping out your aligners often (every week) for the next set, which will continue to guide your teeth into their next position – step by step until they reach their final destination.

Step 3: Wear your aligners

This step is up to you. You’ll have to wear your aligners for at least 22 hours per day and swap out each aligner as instructed. With every switch, you should notice the difference in your smile and how it’s moving into its desired position. Depending on the type of Invisalign or how many aligners you have, this stage can last between 3 and 12 months.

Step 4: Maintaining your new smile

Like with all orthodontic and teeth straightening treatments, you’ll be required to wear a retainer when your treatment ends – this is to ensure your teeth stay in their new positions, remain straight and do not relapse.

Our Invisalign dentists will typically offer you custom-made Vivera retainers during this time, which are custom-crafted from the same technology as your aligners.

Depending on your treatment, you’ll likely be instructed to wear this retainer between 3-12 months (day and night). Following this, you might be recommended to wear a lifelong retainer nightly for optimal results.

Start your journey today and be one step closer to a smile you deserve.
