Metal Brace: At a Glance

Metal braces remain a highly effective option for anyone seeking teeth straightening treatment. Recent advancements in orthodontics have greatly improved the comfort and overall experience of wearing metal braces. They are now much less intrusive compared to earlier versions.

  • Suitable for patients aged 11+
  • Effectively alter the position of gappy, crooked, impacted or missing teeth
  • Visible results in 6 – 24 months

Metal braces remain a popular choice for correcting orthodontic issues at our clinic in West Sussex. Their affordability makes them a common sight on teenagers’ teeth. However, they’re also suitable for adults.

It’s important to note that metal braces are very visible compared to other brace options. We find that some individuals, particularly children who want to match their friends’ appearance, actually prefer the look of metal braces.

How Much Are Metal Braces?

Neyo prioritises clarity and honesty in the services we offer. While specific fees for treatments are typically confirmed during the consultation stage, we do provide a general breakdown of costs on our treatment fees page.

This helps you get an idea of what to expect before proceeding with any treatments. We also offer financing options so that you can spread the cost of your dental treatment.

What Are The Downsides to Fixed Metal Braces?

While fixed metal braces are a common and effective orthodontic treatment, they do come with a few downsides. One of the main concerns is discomfort. The brackets and wires can cause irritation and soreness in the mouth, especially during the initial adjustment period or after tightening appointments.

Another downside is their visibility. Metal braces are highly visible and may make some individuals feel self-conscious about their appearance. This can be particularly concerning for teenagers or adults who prefer a more discreet option.

On rare occasions, breakages can occur with fixed metal braces. The brackets or wires may break or become loose due to various factors such as eating hard or sticky foods, participating in contact sports, or accidental trauma to the mouth. These breakages require additional visits to the orthodontist for repairs.

These downsides shouldn’t discourage you from considering fixed metal braces as an orthodontic treatment option. We are well-equipped to address any discomfort and provide solutions for minimising visibility through options like tooth-coloured ceramic braces or lingual braces placed on the back of teeth. Regular check-ups and following proper care instructions can also help reduce the likelihood of breakages.
