Your step-by-step guide to orthodontic treatment at Neyo

We are delighted to welcome you to Neyo Dental Specialists for your orthodontic treatment. We know you may be feeling apprehensive or have never visited us before, so we have put together a helpful guide to let you know exactly what to expect from your time with us and how we’ll help you through your treatment. If you have any questions, please get in touch!

Step 1: Meet our specialist

Whether you have been referred by your dentist or booked the appointment yourself, we look forward to welcoming you to Neyo. You will meet our orthodontist for a completely free consultation.

During this 30 minute appointment, we’ll check your teeth and discuss treatment options and costs with you. We will also take a 3D digital scan of your teeth at this appointment, so we can look closely at your concerns together and give you an idea of the transformations that are possible.

Step 2: Your personalised treatment plan

Once you are happy to choose Neyo for your orthodontic treatment, we will take any necessary X-rays, photographs and create your bespoke treatment plan based on your objectives and preferences. You will receive a detailed report after this step, which will outline all the information relevant to your treatment.

Step 3: Fitting braces

Fitting your braces can take anywhere between 30 and 60 minutes. There is no pain involved, as we don’t use drills and we don’t use injections. Once your braces have been fitted, we show you how to look after them.

Depending on your treatment plan, you will normally return approximately every 6 weeks to have your braces adjusted. These appointments typically take about 20 minutes. Occasionally, you may need to return for additional appointments if you are having problems with your braces.

Step 4: The big reveal

The day you’re looking forward to! Once you and your orthodontist are happy with your results, we will plan the removal of your braces. Normally, fixed retainers will be fitted to the back surface of your front teeth on the day your braces are removed. We clean and polish your teeth to leave them looking beautiful. We can also discuss teeth whitening or mouthguards at this stage.

Step 5: Wearing retainers

We want to make sure that your new smile is permanent. Retainers are used to make sure your teeth stay straight. They can be fixed (thin discreet wire on the back surface of your teeth) or removable (clear plastic night-time retainers). We like to play it safe so will normally provide you with both.

We will see you every six months for a couple of years to check your retainers and make sure your teeth are still looking beautiful. We will always be available to see you, no matter when your braces were removed, if you’re worried about anything.
