Cobalt chrome dentures are thinner, lighter and cover less of the palate, which makes them very comfortable
Cobalt chrome is widely considered the gold standard for partial removable dentures because it offers distinct clinical and comfort advantages. Because the metal framework is exceptionally strong, it can be made much thinner than acrylic, taking up far less space in your mouth.
Unlike full plastic dentures that cover the roof of your mouth, cobalt chrome partial dentures can often be designed to leave the palate uncovered, allowing you to taste your food better and naturally experience hot and cold temperatures. Furthermore, the metal clasps and framework grip your remaining natural teeth securely, reducing any shifting, which can sometimes be experienced with acrylic alternatives. Finally, cobalt chrome frameworks are engineered to distribute biting forces evenly across your remaining teeth and supporting gums, helping to protect your existing dental health over the long term.

Your journey to a stronger, more comfortable smile is collaborative, precise, and centred around your comfort every step of the way. It all begins with an initial consultation priced at £95, where you will sit down with our team for a comprehensive evaluation. During this visit, we will discuss your dental history, examine your smile, and talk openly about your goals to determine if a cobalt chrome denture is the right choice for you.
Next, we take exceptionally accurate moulds and measurements of your mouth to capture every detail. A major highlight of our practice is having an expert in-house Clinical Dental Technician (CDT). Working side-by-side with our prosthodontist, our CDT ensures your denture is meticulously designed, custom-crafted, and tailored to your exact specifications.
Before your denture is fully finished, we invite you in for a trial fitting. This allows us to check the bite, appearance, and comfort, making any necessary fine-tuning adjustments so it feels just right.
Finally, once your cobalt chrome denture is ready, we fit it securely into place and guide you on how to care for it. We are always here to provide ongoing support, maintenance, and routine check-ups to keep your smile feeling fantastic.
Not at all. While the underlying framework is made of a strong, discreet metal alloy, the parts that show when you speak or smile, the gum-colored base and the replacement teeth, are custom-crafted to blend in seamlessly with your natural appearance. We carefully position any retaining clasps so they remain as hidden as possible.
Cobalt chrome dentures are significantly stronger, thinner, and longer-lasting than standard acrylic dentures. While acrylic dentures are often used as an economical or temporary solution (or for full arches where all teeth are missing), cobalt chrome is the preferred choice for partial dentures due to its superior comfort, precision fit, and durability.
Because cobalt chrome dentures fit more snugly and securely than plastic alternatives, you can enjoy a wider variety of foods with greater confidence. As with any new denture, we recommend starting with softer foods when you first get them and gradually building up, while still avoiding extremely sticky or hard items that could put the denture under pressure.
With proper daily hygiene and regular dental checkups, cobalt chrome frameworks can last for many years, and often outlast acrylic alternatives. While your natural teeth and gums may change over time (which might occasionally require minor adjustments or relining), the metal framework itself is exceptionally durable and resistant to breaking.
Most patients find cobalt chrome dentures easy to get used to because they are very slim and light and don’t cover the entire palate. They are ideal for patients with sensitive gag reflexes who can’t wear acrylic.
