Find out moreWhat is periodontal disease?
Periodontitis is a severe condition, and the most advanced form of gum disease. Unfortunately, it cannot be cured, but can be managed and controlled with effective treatment by a specialist periodontist, halting the progression of the disease.
Allowing periodontal disease to continue unmanaged causes your oral condition to deteriorate quickly, leading to gums pulling away from teeth, pockets forming and even eventual tooth loss. However, with the right dental intervention and periodontal care, we can restore and rebuild teeth, bone and gum, reduce infection and enhance your oral health.
Book an appointmentWhat does the treatment involve?
1We begin your treatment journey with a periodontal assessment led by our specialist team. We examine your teeth and gums, using advanced tools to ensure precise diagnosis.
2We discuss our findings with you and explain the next steps, including which specialist procedures you need for your unique case. This could include gum grafts, bone regeneration, pocket reduction surgery, deep cleaning and more.
3We create your bespoke treatment plan, arrange your appointments, and discuss costs. Your periodontal treatment is carried out in stages, often over several months, to help manage your gum disease for the long term.
4Once your initial treatment is complete, we help you with a clear, personalised maintenance plan, giving you the tools, knowledge and peace of mind needed to keep your oral health in control for the future.

FAQs
Periodontal disease is a condition affecting the health of your gums, bone and supporting tissues. It is caused by a build-up of bacteria and plaque on teeth that is not effectively cleared away regularly. While early gum disease (gingivitis) only affects the surface of the gums, periodontal disease attacks the deeper structures supporting your teeth. Over time, the infection damages the bone and tissues that hold your teeth firmly in place, leading to gaps, receding gums, and potential tooth loss.
The symptoms of periodontal disease include:
- Red, inflamed, tender and swollen gums
- Gums that bleed during brushing or to the touch
- Receding gums or gumline pulling away, exposing the tooth roots
- Persistent bad breath caused by bacterial build-up
- Discomfort and gum pain during eating
- Deep, black, triangular pockets forming between teeth, trapping bacteria
- Loose and shifting teeth
- Changes to bite alignment
If it is caught in the early stages, known as gingivitis, gum disease can be reversed and even cured with regular hygienist appointments. However, if gingivitis is allowed to progress to periodontitis, a more severe stage, it can’t be cured. We can help you manage this advanced stage with careful periodontal treatment with our specialist.
Specialist treatment for periodontitis focuses on controlling the infection and stopping the progression of the disease. We offer a full range of periodontal treatments, including non-surgical deep cleaning, gum grafting, crown lengthening, periodontal surgery, guided tissue regeneration and more. Every periodontal treatment plan is unique to your needs.
If periodontal disease is left to progress without treatment from a specialist, it can quickly get worse. The gum infection can begin to destroy the jawbone supporting your teeth, leading to painful and loose teeth that may fall out. If you’re worried about progressive gum disease, book an appointment with our specialist today.
The timeline of this progression depends on your overall hygiene habits and oral health, such as whether you’re a smoker or have diabetes. In a general sense, you can expect gingivitis to progress into periodontitis sometimes in weeks or several months. It’s important to note that not all patients with gingivitis will develop periodontitis, especially if they improve their oral care routines early on.
