Find out moreWhat are lingual braces?
Lingual braces provide the stability and reliability of fixed braces but in a much more aesthetic way. They give controlled, gentle tooth movement, using metal brackets attached to the back surface of your teeth, nearest your tongue, to straighten your teeth.
Lingual braces are popular due to their aesthetic look, with brackets hidden from sight and unable to be seen when you smile. They can deliver predictable results for patients of all ages, able to correct unbalanced bites, misaligned teeth, gaps and more. Book your consultation with our specialists today!

1We start your lingual braces treatment with a specialist consultation in our practice. We examine your teeth, make sure you are suitable for the lingual appliance and discuss your options and ideal results.
2We use cutting-edge digital scans and images to create your comfortable custom brackets. When ready, we attach your braces on the back of your teeth with perfect precision, using strong dental adhesive to secure the brackets in place.
3Your hidden braces remain fixed on your teeth for the duration of treatment, gradually moving your teeth into straighter positions. We see you for regular appointments to check your progress and make small adjustments to ensure the best possible results.
4After around 12-18 months, your treatment is complete. We carefully remove the lingual braces from the back of your teeth, before fitting you with a retainer to help you maintain your newly straight smile.

FAQs
Lingual braces work in exactly the same way as traditional fixed metal braces, using metal brackets and wires to gradually move teeth into straighter positions. However, they are fixed to the back surfaces of teeth rather than the front. This means they are a much more aesthetic option, unable to be seen by other people when you talk or smile.
Lingual braces are a premium option, as they require specialised equipment in order to be custom-fitted to the unique contours of each individual tooth. As such, they are typically one of the most expensive appliances on the market. We give you a personalised quote at consultation stage, and offer finance options to give you the chance to spread the cost, subject to status*.
Lingual braces offer exceptional precision and can control complex tooth movements more effectively than clear aligners. They are also fixed permanently to your teeth, making them a great option if you think you might struggle with the self-discipline needed to wear removable Invisalign aligners for 22 hours a day. Your lifestyle, hobbies and career are also factors you should take into consideration aside from price and invisibility. Fixed braces require more appointments, so you might need more time off work, whereas with Invisalign treatment, you’ll be more independent.
As the brackets sit directly inside your mouth near the tongue, you may experience some mild irritation and slight changes to your speech during the first few weeks. It also may take some time to get used to the feeling of your brackets next to your tongue, but any discomfort can be managed with over-the-counter painkillers as directed by your dentist. Lingual braces are also more challenging to clean because the brackets are hard to see hidden behind your teeth.
On average, treatment with lingual braces takes between 12 and 18 months to straighten your smile. The exact timeline will depend on the complexity of your spacing, crowding, or bite alignment goals.
