Partial acrylic denture

Option 1 – Partial acrylic denture

The most cost-effective tooth replacement option is made from durable and flexible acrylic, making it ideal for short- to medium-term use. These dentures are made from plastic and utilise clasps that hook onto existing teeth, allowing them to be removed for cleaning and sleeping.

Partial cobalt chrome denture

Option 2: Partial metal/chrome denture

Cobalt chrome dentures are made from a lightweight metal framework that is stronger and more durable than acrylic, but may be slightly more visible. Offering a more secure fit and greater comfort, they offer patients better stability over time.

flexible denture

Option 3: Partial flexible denture

Flexible dentures are crafted from soft, flexible materials that adapt to your mouth, providing a more discreet, comfortable, and natural appearance. They are recommended in cases where patients have sensitive gums or irregular bone structure, as they can tolerate this type better.

Can you sleep with partial dentures in your mouth?

While we understand that you might prefer to sleep with your partial denture in, it’s typically recommended that you remove it overnight to allow your gums essential time to rest.

Removing the denture at night allows your gums time to breathe and recover, thereby reducing the risk of bacterial buildup, gum inflammation, and other oral health issues.

What are the alternatives to partial dentures?

To replace one or more missing teeth, patients can explore options such as dental bridges or dental implants.

These not only replace the gap but also the tooth root, keeping the jawbone stimulated and preventing bone loss and further tooth loss.

How are partial dentures fitted?

Partial dentures are custom-made and fitted over a period of six weeks, with up to six separate appointments.

Between each appointment, our prosthodontist will work on your dentures in the lab to make the necessary adjustments to achieve the perfect fit. From this, you’ll get to try the denture and see how it functions, feels and looks, and if you’re happy, you’ll be ready to go.

A few weeks later, we’ll invite you back to monitor your progress and assess how you’re adjusting, in case we need to make any final adjustments to help the denture sit and settle more comfortably in the gum tissue.

What is eating with partial dentures like?

You can eat with partial dentures, but like any new experience, practice makes perfect.

Wearing dentures requires a significant amount of neuromuscular control, and it takes considerable perseverance to learn how to eat with your new dentures.

Initially, we advise starting with a softer diet and cutting food into smaller pieces. We also recommend avoiding sticky and hard foods. As you grow your confidence, you can begin to expand your dietary options.
